The Dendrochilum is known for its graceful long, thin flower clusters (also called inflorescences). They often contain hundreds of tiny flowers. The color of the flowers is usually white, greenish or yellow. Many species have strong and unusual fragrance that many people find pleasant. Most species are epiphytic and the thin pseudobulbs with spiky grass-like leaves make them easy to recognize. They are native to the cooler tropical cloud forests of Southeast Asia, often high in the mountains. They grow in shady environments with indirect sunlight and moderate air movement.
