Origin

Originally, Doritis pulcherrima comes from Southeast Asia, where they live in filtered light by other plants.

Characteristics

Doritis pulcherrima var marmorata has stippled leaves and can bloom with relatively small size already. The flowers are a soft pink with a prominent red lip. They are small orchids that bloom in clusters of flowers. It is a species that blooms in summer to fall.

Care

Humidity

A minimum humidity of 60% is necessary for this species to survive, but preferably this orchid stands in a humidity of 75-80%. The higher the humidity, the more important the supply of clean air becomes. Ventilation and air movement prevent the growth of harmful fungi and bacteria. A simple fan on a low setting can be sufficient for this purpose.

Sunlight

This species likes moderate to much indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight causes damage to the leaves.

Temperature and water

It is important with this species that the roots are not in a medium that is too compact. Good drainage is very important for this strain to grow well and not suffer from root rot or other problems. Clean rainwater at room temperature works well for this species. In addition, the medium must have good drainage to prevent root rot. Bark or chunks of coconut can be a good basis for a medium. The medium should not be wet when watering again.

This Doritis may be in an ambient temperature of 23-28 degrees Celsius during the day in the summer months for optimal growth and flowering. However, the species can also survive well with living room temperatures starting at 19 degrees Celcius in the summer.

Wet substrate, but limp leaves

If the plant does show signs of dryness, this may be a against that the plant is in too low a humidity. If so, put the plant temporarily in very high humidity with good air circulation to recover.
