In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

The Amydrium zippelianum is a rare tropical aroid from Southeast Asia with a distinct, graphic appearance. This species is distinguished by its deeply incised, strongly lobed leaves that take on an almost fern-like form at maturity. The combination of aerial roots, slender behavior and striking foliage makes this plant a spectacular feature in greenhouse or climbing arch, as well as in a large indoor space.

Origin

This species is native to the rainforests of Indonesia, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea, where it grows as a climber in the tropical forest. Amydrium zippelianum Uses trees as supports to climb up, forming leaves with increasing incisions as it grows higher. The species is closely related to Amydrium medium, but is distinguished by a different leaf shape and growth behavior.

Characteristics

The young plant starts with heart-shaped to slightly lobed leaves, but with climbing growth develops deeply incised, pinnate leaf shapes that resemble a mix between Monstera, Rhaphidophora and Philodendron reminiscent. The leaves are dark green with a leathery texture and distinct veins.
With adequate support and space, this species can grow impressively large, with mature leaves reaching over 50 cm in length. In pot the plant remains compact as long as it does not climb, but with a moss stick or tree bark panel it will show off its spectacular mature leaf shape.

Care

Light

Bright, indirect light to semi-shade. Too bright sun can cause the leaves to fade or burn. Too little light will keep the plant in juvenile form.

Temperature

Between 20-28 °C. No temperatures below 16 °C. This species is heat and moisture loving and does not like drafts.

Substrate

Airy and rich in organic material. Ideal mix: coir fiber, perlite, fine bark, leaf mold and a small proportion of activated carbon. Good drainage is crucial.

Humidity

60-85%. Higher humidity encourages leaf development and reduces the chance of edging or wrinkling. Ideal for a greenhouse or well-humidified room.

Nutrition

During spring and summer feed every 2-3 weeks with a balanced fertilizer for green houseplants. In winter, feed only sporadically.

Watering

Preferably use demineralized water or rainwater. Keep the substrate slightly moist, but not wet. Let the top layer dry out between waterings. Roots that are too wet can lead to rot.

Growing form

As a climbing plant Amydrium zippelianum relatively fast growing in good conditions. Give her a sturdy moss stick or tree trunk to climb for optimal leaf development.
