In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

The Cattleya lueddemanniana 'Tipo' is an elegant appearance from the mountains of Venezuela. This particular botanical species is known for its impressively large flowers and rich fragrance, which makes many an orchid enthusiast dream away. In spring, the flowers bud in soft lilac to lavender tones with a striking, deep purple lip, a classic feature of the 'Tipo' form.

Origin

Cattleya lueddemanniana is native to Venezuela, where it grows at altitudes between 400 and 1,200 meters. In its natural habitat, it lives as an epiphyte in warm, moist forests with good air circulation. The species is known as a national symbol and is cherished locally for its beauty.

Characteristics

The flowers of Cattleya lueddemanniana 'Tipo' can reach 15 to 20 centimeters in diameter and usually appear solitary or in pairs or threes on a mature flowering stem. The color gradient ranges from light purple to soft pink, with an intensely colored lip full of velvety depth. What makes this species especially popular is its pleasant, sweet fragrance, floral and slightly citrusy, a scent often compared to lilies or hyacinths.

Care

Light

This species likes lots of bright, indirect light. A bright windowsill facing east or south (with filtering) is ideal. In too little light, flowering often fails to occur.

Temperature

Cattleya lueddemanniana feels best at warm temperatures: around 22-28 °C during the day and not below 15 °C at night.

Substrate

Use an aerated mixture of coarse bark, possibly combined with charcoal. Provide a pot with good drainage.

Humidity

A humidity of 60-80% is recommended. Daily misting or using a humidifier helps keep the plant healthy.

Nutrition

During the growing period (spring and summer), fertilize weekly with a balanced orchid fertilizer diluted to one-quarter of the recommended strength. In winter, once a month is sufficient.

Watering

Allow the substrate to dry almost completely between waterings. Preferably give demineralized water or clean rainwater at room temperature. Avoid stagnant water at the roots.

Flowering

Flowering usually occurs in spring, with a single or double flower stem per pseudobulb. The flowers usually last one to three weeks. With proper care and adequate light, this species blooms annually.
