In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

Renanthera monachica "Compact Type" is a rare orchid from the Philippines, loved for its intense yellow flowers and compact growth habit. This unique variety stays smaller than the standard form, making it particularly suitable for enthusiasts with limited space or for those who like sophisticated varieties with a tropical character.

Origin

This species is native to the mountain slopes of Luzon Island, where it grows in sunny, well-ventilated spots in the rainforest. The "Compact Type" is a selected form that naturally stays smaller without sacrificing its rich blooms.

Characteristics

Renanthera monachica "Compact Type" has upright growth with firm, leathery leaves and produces striking flower stalks full of bright yellow flowers with small red dots. Compared to other Renanthera species, this selection is much more compact and thus easier to keep in check in a greenhouse or on the windowsill. The flowers are star-shaped and can amount to dozens per cluster, making for a spectacular sight during flowering.

Care

Light

Lots of light is essential. A sunny windowsill or a bright greenhouse is ideal. However, avoid the hottest afternoon sunlight in summer.

Temperature

Day temperatures between 22-30 °C and night temperatures around 16-20 °C are ideal. This species temporarily tolerates higher temperatures provided humidity and ventilation are adequate.

Substrate

An aerated mixture based on medium-sized bark is recommended. The roots like plenty of oxygen and light air movement. A wooden basket or slatted container often works better than a closed pot.

Humidity

A humidity of 60-80% is ideal. Regular spraying or using a humidifier can help with this, especially in winter.

Nutrition

During the growing period, fertilize weekly with a balanced orchid fertilizer, preferably diluted to a quarter of the recommended dosage.

Watering

Water liberally as soon as the substrate is almost dry, preferably with demineralized water or clean rainwater. Never allow the substrate to remain wet for long periods of time to prevent root rot.

Flowering

This species usually blooms once a year with full, branched flower clusters. With proper care, it can also rebloom in between. Adequate light and nutrition are key to successful flowering.
