Het tropische regenwoud

South America is home to one of the most beautiful tropical rainforests in the world. With a great variety of flora and fauna, we find here one of the most colorful, beautiful and extraordinary organisms. For now, making a trip to these beautiful areas is still difficult during the current pandemic. But fortunately, we can bring a piece of the jungle into our homes. In our assortment are some of the rarest plants to be found today. And in fact, about 2,000 new species of plants are discovered each year!

Climate

The climate in the tropics is unique from other climates around the world. With an average high temperature, high humidity and throughout the year many sunshine hours, this is the perfect place for many plants to develop. This can be seen in the biodiversity this place brings. Exotic colors and distinct shapes. Nothing is too crazy in the tropics. Birds of paradise and plants can be discovered everywhere here.

Water

This Tropical rainforest also has a beautiful river: the Amazon, which stretches through most of northern South America. Water is essential in the development of life on our planet. The Amazon is the river that contains the most water of any river in the world. No wonder then that more than 5,000 species of fish and 1,300 species of birds live in the Amazon basin in this river. Well-known fish species that live there include the scary Piranha and the beautiful Neontetra. A well-known bird species that come from this area is the hummingbird. The hummingbird has excellent control over its body. It can hover silently in the air. In this way, it gets its food and water from, for example, the flowers of an orchid.

Houseplant

The climate in these regions has created a balance of organisms: a rich ecosystem with an extraordinary amount of biodiversity. That is why the most extraordinary houseplants are found here. The Syngoniums, Monsteras, Philodendrons and the Anthuriums are found here in all shapes, colors and sizes. For a plant collector, this is where most of the rare specimens have found their origin.

Destroyed

Unfortunately, this beautiful nature is increasingly threatened by deforestation. Therefore, some scientists and plant lovers are calling for the preservation of plant species by keeping and growing them in homes or greenhouses. Then extinct species can be reintroduced when the area in the tropical rainforest is no longer endangered. Of course, that is a very good argument for your roommate/partner to purchase such a new beauty after all.

Before species can be reintroduced, of course, a lot of change is needed. We would like to be able to enjoy this beautiful nature for as long as possible and preferably restore it completely. After all, tropical rainforests are the lungs of the Earth. Many plants have been proven to contribute enormously to air quality, and the tropics provide the most oxygen of all areas to the world.

Good cause

Fortunately, there are more and more organizations contributing to conservation and working against deforestation and pollution of the environment. Organizations such as Greenpeace, WWF, Amazon Watch and Rainforest Alliance, for example, are committed to preserving and restoring tropical rainforests.
