Winterbloeier in huis: Tijd om een Cymbidium aan te schaffen

It's autumn again. In October the leaves fall and a beautiful play of colors begins with red and yellow shades of leaves on deciduous trees. Flowers are largely for spring anyway, which is a shame for flower lovers. Winter is but a drab and dreary period for many places. But fortunately, we have a particularly beautiful and long-lasting bloomer in our assortment that can bloom for up to 12 weeks in winter! The Cymbidium orchid.

Care

Orchid for a cool room

A nice advantage to the Cymbidium orchid is that you do not have to heat it in the winter to enjoy its blooms. In fact, it is more than pleasant for the orchid to be in a space that is below 18 degrees even. At a temperature of 12-15 degrees Celsius, this orchid blooms the longest. A cooler environment such as a utility room or an entryway (watch out for drafts!) is then a perfect place to put a bunch of flowers like this one. After all, this one will last an incredibly long time!

Beginner plant

It may receive a little more water than for example a Hoya, but can withstand drought reasonably well. Do give this species clean rainwater at room temperature. So it is an easy plant, which is also suitable for the beginning orchid lover. Just make sure that the orchid does not stay wet at the bottom of the pot or dry for too long. When the bottom of the pot is slightly moist, you can put another splash of water on it.

Flowers at high temperatures

At 20-25 degrees Celsius, this orchid will probably have trouble flowering and the flowers will wilt quickly from the heat. So a cold temperature is a prerequisite for enjoying long blooms.

Flowering

The flowering of this orchid genus is exuberant with a wide range of unusual flower colors per species. For example, the Kiwi Midnight has almost black flowers. Very cool and special to see!

But there are many other flower colors such as pink, red, yellow, variegated or purple.
