Orchids for outdoors

Most orchids that are offered as a pot plant with separate and special flowers are meant to keep inside. But why would you not want a separate and special orchids outside? Various growers have done their utmost to grow a very nice orchid for outside, which fits into our European climate for even a small frost in the winter!

Popular species

Examples of well -known orchids for the garden with beautiful flowers include the Cypripedium (Venus Pantoffel), Dactylorhiza, Epipactis, Chinese Bletilla and the Calanthe. Of these, the Cypripedium is one of the most famous species because of the appearance that looks a lot like the Venus shoe orchid (Paphiopedilum). The colors of the flowers can be white, pink, green, brown, red, yellow or a combination of these colors.

Care

Most garden orchids are particularly in a sheltered place and need good drainage. They do not like too much fertilization and rather a manure that releases delayed food. In addition, Cypripediums can often handle winter temperatures. Often the plants then just walk out again in the spring. The leaves die in the fall. The old foliage can then be cut about 6 centimeters above the ground. They like a shady to partial shadow spot in the garden in a damp environment.

Scarce and unique in the garden

Buitenorchideeën are not (yet) frequently used in European gardens, but that is of course a shame because these separate outdoor plants breathe the timeless beauty of nature! Be sure to place these plants in your garden.
