In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

The Anthurium clarinervium is one of the most beloved varieties among foliage plant enthusiasts, and for good reason. With its heart-shaped, velvety leaves and contrasting white veins, this Mexican species has a strikingly graphic character. A real must-have for any collector of aroids.

Origin

Anthurium clarinervium is native to the calcareous forests of southern Mexico, where it grows as a lithophyte or epiphyte in shady, moist environments. The species was scientifically described in the 20th century and quickly became popular in botanical collections for its graceful, compact growth and striking leaf structure.

Characteristics

The leaves are thick, leathery and heart-shaped, with a velvety dark green upper surface and a light green to gray-green lower surface. The veins are broad, white to silvery, and stand out sharply against the leaf surface. The leaf margin is slightly wavy. Young leaves are often light green with a copper tint, turning to deep green over time. Compared to related species such as A. crystallinum remains clarinervium more compact, making it particularly suitable for indoor cultivation.

Care

Light

Provide bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can damage the velvety foliage. Semi-shade is tolerated but can slow growth.

Temperature

The ideal temperature is between 18 °C and 25 °C. Avoid cold and drafts; prolonged exposure to temperatures below 15 °C can be harmful.

Substrate

Use an airy, well-draining mixture, e.g. based on fine bark, coconut chips, perlite and some leaf compost. The roots like an oxygen-rich environment.

Humidity

A humidity of 60-80% is recommended. Dry air can lead to brown leaf tips or margins. A humidifier or terrarium setup helps with healthy leaf development.

Nutrition

During the growing season (spring to fall), fertilize once every 4-6 weeks with a diluted aroid fertilizer. In winter, feeding is rarely necessary.

Watering

Allow the substrate to partially dry out between waterings. Preferably use demineralized water to avoid calcium stains on the leaves. Water at the edge of the pot, not in the heart of the plant.

Flowering

Flowering consists of an inconspicuous spike with a small bract, usually greenish in color. This species is mostly about the ornamental foliage; many growers remove the inflorescence to direct energy to the foliage.
