In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

The Bulbophyllum habrotinum is a striking species for the advanced collector. This compact orchid stands out for its bizarre flower structure, typical fragrance and minimal size. Ideal for those who want to delve into the wonderful world of micro-orchids.

Origin

This species is native to the humid mountain forests of Southeast Asia, particularly Malaysia and parts of Indonesia. In its natural habitat, it grows as an epiphyte on tree trunks, often sheltered under canopy where humidity is consistently high.

Characteristics

Bulbophyllum habrotinum is a true miniature with oval, pale green pseudobulbs from which short leaves grow. The flowers are small but extraordinarily complex in shape, with graceful frills and yellow to reddish-brown markings. The flower emits an odor that varies by plant, often slightly musty or organic, which attracts insects for pollination. The inflorescence appears one at a time on a thin stalk above the leaves.

Care

Light

Give this species bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight as it can damage the delicate leaves. A spot with morning sun or filtered daylight is ideal.

Temperature

Bulbophyllum habrotinum likes warm temperatures. Between 20-28 °C during the day and no colder than 16 °C at night. Fluctuations are allowed, but extreme cold should be avoided.

Substrate

Use an aerated substrate such as chopped tree bark or sphagnum moss. A mount on cork or tree fern board also works well provided you can mist daily.

Humidity

This species requires a humidity level of at least 70%. Use a humidifier or place the plant in a display case or greenhouse for a stable microclimate.

Nutrition

Feed weekly with a highly diluted orchid fertilizer (¼ of the recommended dosage). In winter, this can be reduced to once a month.

Watering

Always use demineralized water. Keep the substrate constantly slightly moist, but avoid wet feet. When mounting, do not let the moss dry out completely. Never use tap water with this species, as the habrotinum cannot tolerate it.

Flowering

Bulbophyllum habrotinum usually blooms once a year, often in spring or summer. Flowering takes a few days, but the experience is intense and unique. Watch for the creation of new pseudobulbs, as a flower stem often follows.
