In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

A special appearance within the world of botanical Cattleyas: Cattleya percivaliana f. rubra 'Veneno' is a rare and beloved clone known for its bold colors and intensely floral fragrance. This variety makes a stunning centerpiece in any orchid stock or collection of rare bloomers.

Origin

Cattleya percivaliana is a botanical species native to the mountainous cloud forests of Venezuela, where it grows on rocks or as an epiphyte on tree branches. The form rubra is known for its deep pink to wine-red flower color, which differs greatly from the more lavender-colored wild form. The clone 'Veneno' was selected for its exceptionally rich hue and excellent flowering characteristics.

Characteristics

'Veneno' is distinguished by its full flowers with an intense crimson to burgundy lip and bright pink petals. Compared to other percivaliana clones, the flower color is darker and more even in tone. The flowers are on average 10-12 cm wide, wonderfully fragrant and remain beautiful on the plant for up to three weeks.
This Cattleya forms sturdy, medium-sized pseudobulbs with leathery, dark green leaves. Under optimal conditions, it can flower annually, often in the winter months, making it extra valuable within the collection.

Care

Light

Lots of bright, indirect light. It tolerates morning sun and filtered light, but not bright afternoon sun.

Temperature

Ideal daytime temperatures are between 20°C and 26°C, with nighttime values around 16-18°C. Provide a slight temperature difference between day and night to encourage flowering.

Substrate

Use an aerated mixture based on coarse bark and a small amount of sphagnum moss. Provide adequate drainage.

Humidity

A humidity of 55-75% is ideal. In drier air, you can mist the plant or use a humidifier.

Nutrition

In the growing season (spring and summer) feed weekly with a balanced orchid fertilizer. In the dormant period (fall and winter) reduce to once a month.

Watering.

Allow the substrate to dry thoroughly between waterings. Preferably give demineralized water or clean rainwater in the morning so that the leaves dry up by the evening.

Flowering

'Veneno' usually blooms in late fall to early winter, often around December. The inflorescence appears at the end of a mature pseudobulb and usually has 2-4 flowers. A healthy, mature plant can flower annually with proper care.
