In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

    Description

    Origin

The Cattleya wallisii is a South American orchid, native to northern Brazil. It was discovered in 1866 and in 1867 the Cattleya wallisii was exhibited in Paris by M. Linden. The first illustration of the flower was in Van Houtte's Flore des Serres in 1869-1870.

    Breathtaking cross

The Cattleya Hilela is a cultivated hybrid. This is its original and first version.

    Features

The beautiful large flowers with a yellow with bright pink lip are characteristic of this cultivated variety, the Cattleya wallisii F.S./A Flamea 'Hilela'. Moreover, it is a sweet-smelling orchid, blooming with at least 1 large flower in late summer or early fall. The flowers can grow larger than 15 centimeters across, making it an extremely attractive species for the lover of striking and unusual orchids. Flowering can last a long time with proper care.

    Care

    Summer temperature, humidity and substrate.

The Cattleya wallisii is a heat-loving species, which in summer likes a temperature of at least 24 degrees Celsius during the day and high to extremely high humidity with lots of air movement. By using a coarse substrate with only 20% sphagnum moss, through which air can move, you prevent rotting.

    Water and temperature

With good quality rainwater with the right acidity, the orchid will be lovely in its spot. Still, this species can stand in a place with a more moderate temperature and survive. But the ideal temperature will be above 23 degrees during the day in summer. At night it may cool down about 5 degrees to promote growth. In winter, a temperature of around 20 degrees is sufficient.

    Sunlight and pH

Put the orchid in plenty of indirect sunlight. Preferably near a south-facing window. However, the plant should not get direct sunlight on the leaves, as this can cause leaf burn. The plant prefers to be in sunlight for about 10 to 16 hours. The acidity of the water should not be below 5.5 or above 6.5.
