In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

One of the most elegant orchids of the Himalayan region, Coelogyne cristata has been admired for centuries for its pure white flowers with golden yellow highlights. In bloom, the plant appears to produce a waterfall of snow-like flowers, a sight that has made it famous worldwide.

Origin

C. cristata is native to the cool, moist mountain forests of the Himalayas, at altitudes between 1500 and 2600 meters. There it grows as an epiphyte on trees or lithophyte on moss-covered rocks, often in misty valleys where the nights are cool and the days are clear. It was discovered in the 19th century by European plant collectors and quickly became one of the most popular orchids in Victorian greenhouses.

Features

The plant forms ovoid pseudobulbs with narrow, leathery leaves. During flowering, usually in late winter to early spring, graceful flower clusters with several flowers appear simultaneously. The flowers are large and pure white, with a wavy lip decorated with golden-yellow spots and ridges. Their elegant appearance and fresh appearance make C. cristata one of the most iconic species within the genus.

Care

Light

Plenty of bright, filtered light is desired. Avoid direct midday sun, but morning and evening sun are well tolerated.

Temperature

This is a cool-loving orchid. During the day 15-22°C and at night the temperature may drop to 5-10°C. A pronounced difference between day and night stimulates flowering.

Substrate

An airy mixture of medium-sized tree bark with a little sphagnum and coconut fiber works well. Provide good drainage.

Humidity

A humidity of 60-80% is ideal, combined with adequate air circulation.

Nutrition

During the growing period, fertilize lightly weekly with orchid fertilizer. Stop fertilizing once the pseudobulbs are mature and flowering approaches.

Watering

Give only demineralized water. Keep the plant moist during growth, but allow it to rest slightly drier after the shoots sprout to encourage flowering.

Flowering

The flowering of Coelogyne cristata is one of the most enchanting within the genus. The pure white flowers with their golden yellow centers appear in graceful clusters and remain beautiful for weeks. For lovers of classic orchid beauty, this is an absolute must-have, bringing a touch of Himalayan beauty into the home with its cool charm.
