In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

The Dendrobium anosmum var. semi-alba is a rare orchid that is especially notable for its delicate play of colors and powerful fragrance. Whereas the common D. anosmum is known for its vibrant purple flowers, this semi-alba variety offers a more subtle, sophisticated palette of white with purple highlights. A special find for any collector or lover of fragrant species.

Origin

This species is native to Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia. It grows there epiphytically on trees in warm-humid lowland forests. The semi-alba variety is a natural color variation that is rarer in occurrence, making it popular among connoisseurs.

Characteristics

The Dendrobium anosmum var. semi-alba develops long, slender reeds (canes) that can grow to more than a meter. During dormancy, the plant often loses its leaves. In spring, large, fragrant flowers appear directly on the bare reeds. The flowers are usually 7 to 10 cm large, white in color with a purple-pink lip and a light purple haze in the center. The fragrance is distinctly sweet, reminiscent of honey with a hint of vanilla.

Care

Light

This species likes lots of light, but does not tolerate bright midday sun. A place in front of an east or west window is ideal.

Temperature

A warm location (18-30 °C) is ideal. In winter it may be slightly cooler at night, to about 14-16 °C, to encourage flowering.

Substrate

Use a well-drained, aerated orchid substrate based on medium-sized tree bark.

Humidity

A humidity of 60-80% is desirable. Regular spraying helps, especially during warm periods.

Nutrition

During the growth phase (spring and summer), give diluted orchid fertilizer weekly. During the dormant period (fall and winter) do not fertilize.

Watering

During the growing period, water regularly, allowing the substrate to dry slightly between waterings. Preferably use demineralized water or clean rainwater. In winter, you may water less and keep the orchid almost dry for several weeks to promote flowering.

Flowering

Flowering usually occurs in early spring, after the dormant period has passed. Flowers appear directly on the older, leafless canes. Flowering can last up to three weeks, with the fragrance spreading strongly through the room.
