In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

Origin

Originally, Dracula orchids, including Dracula simia, were named under the genus Masdevallia due to the similarities with that orchid genus. The origin of this species is located in Ecuador. Nevertheless, some have also been observed in Colombia and Peru. This South American orchid is very popular among collectors of orchids that can stand in cooler climates.

Characteristics

The Dracula simia is known for the reddish-brown dotted color of the flower's petals. This orchid has sprite-like petals and a white center. The flower appears to have a face of a monkey, which many fans of Dracula orchids really like and appreciate. The unique and funny appearance of the flower is also the reason why Dracula orchids are also called aaporchids.

Smell of the flowers

The flowers of the Dracula simia are also valued for their ability to give off a fragrance. The fragrance is reminiscent of ripe oranges.

Care

Care of the Dracula simia is mainly for advanced orchid hobbyists due to the difficulty of maintaining the proper climate and water quality for the species.

Temperature and light

It is important that the species stays in a temperature below 22 degrees Celsius in a constant daytime temperature and has plenty of air movement around it. It is important that the species not be in too bright indirect light. A spot in the shade is desirable.

Humidity and water management

In addition, high humidity is important and the substrate should not dry up completely. On the other hand, the substrate should also not remain too wet, as this can cause rotting.

Climate

All of this makes it a very difficult species to care for and will require the use of a terrarium, small greenhouse or other climate controlling means.
