In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

With its deeply veined leaves and fragrant flowers, the Hoya clemensiorum is a real eye-catcher for the enthusiast. This tropical plant grows slowly, but rewards your patience with a unique look as well as an enchanting evening scent. Perfect for those looking for a special addition to a Hoyacollection or an eye-catching plant for your home.

Origin

The Hoya clemensiorum is native to Borneo and belongs to the waxflower family (Apocynaceae). It is a lesser known but very popular species among collectors because of its distinct leaf markings and fragrant blooms.

Characteristics

What these Hoya makes so special are the elongated, leathery leaves with a deep green color and strikingly dark veins. Because of the grain markings, the species bears similarities to Hoya callistophylla, but the clemensiorum usually has narrower, more pointed leaves with a frayed leaf margin.
When properly cared for, this plant forms compact umbels of star-shaped flowers. The flowers are red in color with a white center and spread a pleasant fragrance especially in the evening hours. Flowering often persists for several weeks.

Care

Light

Give the plant a bright location, preferably with plenty of indirect sunlight. Avoid bright midday sun, which can damage the leaves.

Temperature

This species likes warmth. Temperatures between 20 °C and 28 °C are ideal. Avoid cold drafts or temperatures below 15 °C.

Substrate

Use an aerated, well-draining substrate, such as a mix of bark, coconut chips and a small amount of humus. Avoid standard potting soil, as it remains too compact.

Watering

Allow the substrate to dry out slightly to moderately between waterings. Preferably give demineralized water or clean rainwater at room temperature to avoid accumulation of salts.

Humidity

High humidity (60% or more) is appreciated, especially when forming flowers. In drier environments, a humidifier or regular misting can help.

Nutrition

During the growing season (spring and summer), feeding once a month with a balanced orchid or epiphyte fertilizer is sufficient.

Flowering

The Hoya clemensiorum may bloom several times a year, especially when it has become well established. Do not move the plant once a flowering stem (peduncle) has formed, as it may produce flowers again and again.
