In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

The Hoya lacunosa 'Variegata' is an elegant, variegated variant of the well-known Hoya lacunosa. This plant is known not only for its compact growth habit and delicate blooms, but also for its wonderfully fragrant flowers. With its cream-colored leaf markings, this is a standout in any houseplant collection.

Origin

The Hoya lacunosa is found in the wild in Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. This variegata-variant, however, is a cultivated form that is especially popular with collectors. The species grows naturally as an epiphyte, often in trees, where it attaches with its roots.

Characteristics

What makes this plant unique is the playful contrast between the dark green edges and the cream to soft yellow center of the leaves. The leaves are oval and slightly hairy, giving the plant a subtle velvety appearance. When the plant is enjoying itself, it forms clusters of small, star-shaped flowers. These are white and emit a pleasant, sweet fragrance that is especially good to smell in the evening.

Care

Light

Place the plant in a bright location with indirect sunlight. Too little light can reduce the variegated markings. Avoid bright midday sun, which can cause leaf burn.

Temperature

A constant room temperature between 18 and 25 °C is ideal. Protect against cold drafts and temperatures below 15 °C.

Substrate

Use an airy, well-draining substrate based on bark, coconut fiber and a small proportion of peat. A special epiphyte or Hoya mixture is perfect.

Humidity

A humidity of 50-70% is appreciated. In drier areas, regular spraying or a humidifier helps.

Nutrition

During the growing season (spring to fall), give a light dose of liquid nutrition once a month, especially for epiphytes or flowering houseplants.

Watering

Allow the substrate to partially dry out between waterings. Preferably give demineralized water and avoid leaving water in the pot.

Flowering

Flowers usually appear in the warmer months and stay on the plant for up to several weeks. Never cut away old flower stems: Hoya's often bloom again at the same point.
