In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

The Hoya latifolia is a standout within the genus Hoya. With its broad and leathery leaves, this is a plant that exudes both tranquility and character. An ideal choice for lovers of unusual leaf textures and compact, easy-to-maintain houseplants.

Origin

The Hoya latifolia occurs naturally in Southeast Asia, particularly in parts of Malaysia and Indonesia. In its natural habitat, this species grows as an epiphyte in tropical forests, where it attaches to trees with its sturdy tendrils and slowly climbs up there.

Characteristics

What these Hoya makes it special is the size and shape of its leaves. They are oval to round in shape, remarkably thick and sturdy, and can grow over 25 cm long. The leaf veins are clearly visible and give each leaf an almost geometric pattern. The plant can also begin to bloom over time with compact, star-shaped flowers that are lightly scented and typically waxy looking, like you would expect from a Hoya might expect.

Care

Light

The Hoya latifolia does well in a bright location with plenty of indirect sunlight. A few hours of morning or evening sun are fine, but avoid bright afternoon sun.

Temperature

Ideal temperatures are between 18 and 28 °C. This plant does not tolerate cold drafts or temperatures below 10 °C.

Substrate

Use an airy, well-draining substrate based on bark, coconut chips and a little peat moss. This mimics natural growing conditions and prevents root rot.

Humidity

A humidity of 60% or higher is ideal, although this species also tolerates somewhat drier air. Regular spraying is appreciated, especially in winter when room air is dry.

Watering

Allow the substrate to dry partially between waterings. You may water more often in summer, sparingly in winter. Preferably use demineralized water or rainwater.

Nutrition

During the growing season (spring and summer), feed the plant once a month with a balanced orchid fertilizer or a Hoya-specific fertilizer.

Flowering

Flowers appear from spores (old flowering buds) and should not be cut. If conditions are right, the plant can bloom annually with compact umbels of star-shaped, slightly fragrant flowers.
