In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

The Hoya mitrata is a rare species of waxflower with an elegant appearance and a lovely sweet fragrance. This plant is an asset for any collector who loves unusual flowers and compact growth forms. Originally from the rainforests of Southeast Asia, this species surprises with its unique inflorescence and robust character.

Origin

Hoya mitrata Grows wild in tropical forests of Thailand and Myanmar, among others, where it lives as an epiphyte on tree branches. In its natural habitat, it benefits from high humidity and filtered light, conditions that you can also partially recreate at home.

Characteristics

This Hoya is distinguished by its thick, leathery leaves and compact growth. The inflorescence is truly striking: clusters of globular flowers with white to cream-colored petals and a sharply contrasting dark purple or pink crown. The flowers emit a powerful, sweet fragrance that is especially good to smell in the evening.
The plant grows slowly but steadily and forms relatively short tendrils, which also makes it suitable for smaller spaces or hanging pots.

Care

Light

Hoya mitrata Likes bright, indirect light. Avoid bright midday sun as it can cause the leaves to discolor or dry out. A spot near an east- or west-facing window is ideal.

Temperature

This species thrives best in temperatures between 18 and 28 °C. It does not like the cold and should not be exposed to temperatures below 15 °C.

Substrate

Use an aerated, fast-draining mixture rich in organic matter. A mixture of bark, coconut fiber and a little peat moss works well for this epiphytic species.

Humidity

High humidity (at least 60%) is appreciated, especially during the growing and flowering stages. Regular misting or a humidifier nearby can help the plant grow optimally.

Nutrition

During the growing season (spring and summer), you may apply diluted orchid fertilizer or a balanced houseplant food monthly. In fall and winter, fertilization is unnecessary.

Watering

Allow the substrate to dry thoroughly between waterings. Hoya mitrata Is susceptible to root rot, so preferably water moderately and always use demineralized water or clean rainwater. Tap water is best avoided because of the risk of damage to the roots and leaves due to wrong proportions of minerals, among other things.

Flowering

With proper care, this species can flower several times a year. Be sure to leave the old flowering stems in place because Hoya's often bloom again in the same spot. The fragrant flowers appear mainly in the summer months and usually last about 5 to 7 days.
