In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

The Hoya ‘Silver Moon' is a graceful and striking Hoya-cultivar that particularly appeals to fans of unusual leaf markings. This plant combines the typical, waxy Hoya-leaf with a silver-gray markings resembling a moonshine. A special addition to any plant collection, whether you are a novice collector or have a long-standing passion for rare houseplants.

Origin

The 'Silver Moon' is a selective cultivar within the genus Hoya, originating in Southeast Asia and parts of Australia. Although the exact parent material of this cultivar is not fully known, there are strong indications that it is related to Hoya carnosa or a hybrid thereof. This selection is loved for its unique leaf pattern and vigor.

Characteristics

What immediately stands out about the Hoya ‘Silver Moon' are the firm, oval leaves covered with a silver-gray speckled pattern, ranging from subtle to almost completely covered. The leaves are slightly convex and leathery, typical of many Hoya species. Under ideal conditions, the plant eventually forms clusters of star-shaped, fragrant flowers, usually white to pale pink in color with a waxy appearance.

  • Leaf shape: oval, slightly convex
  • Leaf color: dark green with silver marbling
  • Flowering: white-pink flowers in globular umbels (in older specimens)
  • Port de la plante : climbing or hanging, depending on conductance

Care

Light

The Hoya ‘Silver Moon' likes lots of bright, indirect light. A spot near an east or west window is ideal. Direct afternoon sun can cause leaf burn, but morning and evening sun is well tolerated.

Temperature

This plant feels most comfortable at temperatures between 18 and 26°C (64 and 66°F). Avoid drafts and cold snap.

Substrate

Use an aerated, fast-draining substrate based on bark, coconut fiber and coarse wood fiber, for example. Avoid compact potting soil.

Humidity

A humidity of 50% or higher is recommended, although it tolerates Hoya drier air reasonably well as well.

Watering

Allow the substrate to dry completely between waterings. Preferably use demineralized or clean rainwater water. Overwatering quickly leads to root rot in this species. Prefer to choose higher humidity in case of concerns about drying out rather than re-watering the plant too early.

Nutrition

During the growing season (spring to fall), you may fertilize once a month with a balanced orchid fertilizer or a fertilizer for epiphytes, diluted to half strength.

Flowering

Flowering usually occurs only in older, well-rooted specimens with adequate light. Always leave old flowering stems as new flowers may develop on them.
