In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

The Hoya thomsonii is a species that rarely shows up in standard collections, but among enthusiasts of unusual Hoya's is highly regarded. With its soft, hairy leaves and striking inflorescence, this is a plant that not only intrigues visually, but also has something unique to offer in terms of texture and care.

Origin

This species is native to the Himalayan region, including parts of India and Nepal. In its natural habitat, it grows as an epiphyte in cloud forests, where humidity and filtered light set the tone.

Characteristics

The leaves of the Hoya thomsonii are thick, oval and covered with a velvety hairiness that immediately distinguishes it from other Hoya's. The undersides are often slightly lighter in color and may show a light purple tinge. The flowers appear in compact umbels and are creamy white with a dark pink center, where the blooms can emit a slightly sweet fragrance.

What makes this species extra special is the combination of its downy texture with the almost waxy flowers, a contrast rarely seen in the plant world.

Care

Light

Give this plant bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can cause the leaves to fade or burn, while too little light blocks flowering.

Temperature

Between 18°C and 26°C is ideal. Protect it from cold drafts and temperatures below 15 °C.

Substrate

An airy, well-draining substrate based on, for example, coconut fiber, bark or tree fern root works excellently. Avoid compact, water-retaining potting soil.

Humidity

Keep humidity between 60 and 80% for optimal growth. This Hoya appreciates regular misting, especially during dry periods.

Watering

Allow the substrate to dry slightly between waterings. Preferably use demineralized water or clean rainwater at room temperature.

Feeding

During the growing season, provide it with a low concentration balanced orchid or epiphyte fertilizer monthly.

Flowering

Flowers usually appear in spring or summer and remain beautiful for up to two weeks. Never remove the flowering stems, as new blooms often return in the same place.
