In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

The Monnierara Millenium Magic "Witchcraft" FCC/AOS is no ordinary orchid, but a botanical that has garnered worldwide admiration. With its velvety black flowers, enchanting name and prestigious FCC award from the American Orchid Society, this hybrid is among the most iconic creations within the modern orchid world.

Origin

This hybrid is the result of a cross between Mormodes sinuata, Catasetum expansum and Clowesia rosea. The combination of these genera resulted in an extraordinary cross within the intergeneric alliance Catasetinae. The cultivar name "Witchcraft" refers to the mysterious darkness of the flower, which looks almost black. And this is a rare phenomenon in the plant kingdom.

Characteristics

Monn. Millenium Magic "Witchcraft" is notable for its deep, almost jet-black flowers with a velvety texture. The flowers appear in clusters of 8 to 15 per stem, usually in late summer or early fall. Each flower is about 6 to 7 cm in diameter and emits a light, pleasant fragrance. The plant grows from pseudobulbs that lose their leaves at dormancy: a typical characteristic of Catasetinae.

Care

Light

This orchid likes bright, indirect light. In the growth phase, it can also tolerate brief periods of direct sunlight, provided there is adequate air circulation.

Temperature

Ideal temperatures are between 20 and 30 °C during the day, with a slight cooling at night. During the dormant period, the temperature may drop to 15 °C.

Substrate

Use an aerated, fast-draining substrate, preferably based on fine to medium bar wood with some sphagnum added for moisture retention, if necessary.

Humidity

A humidity level of 50-70% is recommended. At lower values, additional humidification is desirable.

Watering

During the growth phase (spring to fall), this species needs a lot of water. Water generously with demineralized water or clean rainwater as soon as the new shoots develop. During the winter months, when the leaves have fallen off, keeping it almost completely dry is recommended.

Nutrition

During the growing season, feed weekly with a balanced orchid fertilizer, preferably at half strength. Stop fertilizing completely once the dormant period arrives.

Flowering

Flowering usually follows in the fall, just after the active growing period. Flowers appear on mature, deciduous pseudobulbs. Leave the plant in place during flowering, as disturbance can affect flowering.
