In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

A rare gem for the lover of unusual orchids. Paphiopedilum hirsutissimum 'Sang Wang' is a selected clone of a botanical species known for its expressive colors, firm hairiness and large flower shape. This particular plant carries the distinction Am/RHT, a seal of approval that confirms its exceptional quality.

Origin

Paphiopedilum hirsutissimum is native to the mountainous regions of Southeast Asia, including parts of northern India, Myanmar, Laos and China. The species grows there on humus-rich slopes and in rock crevices, often sheltered from direct sunlight.

Characteristics

This clone, 'Sang Wang', is notable for its large-flowered form, rich markings and remarkably robust flower structure. The sepals and petals show deep reddish-purple highlights with a soft velvety sheen. As the species name 'hirsutissimum' suggests, the flowers and stems are remarkably hairy - a feature that gives the plant a tough and characterful appearance.

Am/RHT

The Am/RHT award stands for Award of Merit from the RHT (Royal Horticultural Trust), a regional orchid jury that judges plants on their form, color, markings and overall presentation. This award signifies that the plant is among the best of its kind.

Care

Light

Light is important, but avoid direct sunlight. A stand with bright, filtered light is ideal.

Temperature

This species likes cool to moderate temperatures: 18-24°C during the day, slightly cooler at night.

Substrate

Use an aerated and well-draining mixture, such as one based on bark and sphagnum moss. Avoid calcareous materials.

Humidity

A humidity of 60-80% is ideal. Regular misting or a humidifier can help, especially in winter.

Nutrition

Use a balanced orchid fertilizer, diluted to a quarter of the recommended strength, once every two weeks during the growing period.

Watering

Water with demineralized water as soon as the substrate begins to dry up slightly. Do not leave the roots wet for long periods of time.

Flowering

Paphiopedilum hirsutissimum usually blooms in spring to early summer. Each flower persists for several weeks and often opens one at a time on a sturdy stem.
