In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

The Pecteilis radiata, also known as the White Egret Orchid or Habenaria radiata, is an enchanting orchid that gets its name from the shape of its flower: like a graceful white heron in full flight. This species is rare in culture and makes a deep impression with its almost ethereal appearance.

Origin

Pecteilis radiata is native to Japan, where it occurs naturally in moist grasslands and swamps. In its natural habitat, it grows in seasonally wet soils, often along with other marsh plants. It is a terrestrial orchid, meaning it grows with its roots in the soil, unlike most epiphytic species.

Characteristics

What makes this orchid so special is the complex and almost animal-like shape of the flower. The snow-white petals are deeply incised and reminiscent of wings. The lip of the flower is elegantly fan-shaped with fine fringes, making it appear to soar like a bird.
The plant reaches a height of about 15 to 40 cm and blooms in summer. Each flower stem bears several flowers, adding a subtle, fresh look to your collection.

Please note that when dormant, the plant loses all its leaves above ground. This is perfectly normal.

Care

Pecteilis radiata requires slightly different care than the average indoor orchid. It thrives best in an airy, moisture-retaining substrate such as fine peat moss or a mix of peat and perlite. Keep the plant moist during the growing season (spring to fall), but barely water in winter when it is dormant.
It likes plenty of light, but avoid bright midday sun. Cool to moderate temperatures (15-25°C) are ideal.

Give her a spot that mimics her natural habitat: humid, light and well ventilated. With proper care, you will be rewarded with a bloom that is truly magical.
