Description

This particular miniature orchid is a unique appearance within the Phalaenopsis-genus. Phalaenopsis parishii "Brown" stands out for its warm flower color, compact growth and botanical charm. Ideal for lovers of rare species and collectors of natural Phalaenopsis.

Origin

This species originates in the forests of India, Bhutan, Myanmar and Thailand, where it grows on mossy branches in a moist, shady environment. The cultivar "Brown" is a selected form with deeper colored flower lips and a slightly darker tone in the petals than the classic P. parishii.

Characteristics

Phalaenopsis parishii "Brown" is a miniature orchid with a compact growth habit and short, oval leaves that often have a purplish underside. The flowers are small but showy and appear in spring. They have a white base, with an intensely dark brown to almost chestnut-colored lip - the characteristic that gives this variety its name. The flowers are lightly scented and appear on gracefully curved flowering stems. Its modest size and refined color combination make this a popular species among botanical enthusiasts.

Care

Light

Light to partial shade, preferably filtered daylight. Avoid direct sunlight on the leaves.

Temperature

Between 18 °C and 28 °C during the day, with a slight drop at night. This species does not tolerate cold.

Substrate

Use a fine, aerated substrate such as fine pine bark or sphagnum matched to epiphytic orchids.

Humidity

A humidity of 60-80% is recommended. Regular misting or use of a humidifier can help.

Watering

Keep the substrate slightly moist, but never let it get completely wet. Use only demineralized water or clean rainwater at room temperature.

Feeding

In the growing season, light orchid fertilizer weekly at 1/4 of the recommended dosage. In the dormant period, less frequently.

Flowering

Flowering usually occurs in spring, sometimes followed by a second flowering later in the year. After flowering, the old flowering stem can be removed or left in place if still green.
