In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

The Phalaenopsis schilleriana is a botanical orchid that not only excels in floral beauty, but is also loved for its strikingly marbled leaves. This species is a true classic in the orchid world and a must-have for any lover of botanical beauties.

Origin

Phalaenopsis schilleriana is a species native to the Philippines, where it grows on tree trunks in warm, moist forests. It is an epiphyte that attaches to bark and lives off the diffuse light that seeps through the canopy. The species was first described in 1860 and has been loved ever since for its elegant appearance and soft fragrance.

Characteristics

What makes this species unique are its elongated leaves with silver-green, marbled markings on the top and purplish undersides. During flowering - usually in spring - the plant produces imposing flower stalks with dozens of pale pink flowers, often slightly fragrant. The flowers have a satiny sheen and appear to bloom almost in clouds above the foliage.

Care

Light

This species likes bright, filtered light. Avoid direct sunlight, especially in summer, to prevent leaf burn.

Temperature

Ideal daytime temperatures are between 22 and 28 °C. At night, the temperature may drop to around 18 °C, but try to avoid cold swings.

Substrate

Use an airy and moisture-retaining orchid substrate based on coarse tree bark. Avoid dense or calcareous materials.

Humidity

A humidity of 60-80% is ideal. In drier air, it helps to mist regularly or use a humidifier.

Nutrition

During the growing period (spring to fall) weekly a light dose of orchid nutrition. In winter, once a month is sufficient.

Watering

Water as soon as the roots turn silvery. Always use demineralized water at room temperature and do not allow the substrate to remain wet for long periods of time. Tap water should be avoided.

Flowering

Flowering usually begins in spring and can last for weeks. After flowering, you can leave the flower stem in place - this species sometimes makes side shoots for a second round of flowers.
