In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

Phalaenopsis violacea "Red" is a special cultivar of the botanical species Phalaenopsis violacea, beloved for its intensely colored flowers and rich fragrance. This compact orchid is a wonderful choice for lovers of fragrant varieties and botanical beauty in a small size.

Origin

The original species comes from the moist lowland forests of Malaysia, Borneo and Sumatra. There it grows on trees, often close to rivers, where it benefits from warm temperatures, high humidity and filtered sunlight. The "Red" cultivar was selected for its deep red to wine-red flowers, which are an enhancement of the natural color variations within the species.

Characteristics

The plant remains compact, forming a short stem with broad, glossy leaves that grow in a flat rosette. Flowers usually appear one at a time on short flower stalks, but with proper care, the plant can bloom year-round. What makes this variety special is the deep red color of the petals, sometimes with a subtle sheen or pink to purple undertone. In addition, the flower is strongly fragrant, with a sweet, spicy scent reminiscent of citrus or anise.

Care

Phalaenopsis violacea "Red" requires a warm, stable environment that mimics its natural habitat.

Stand

Place the plant in a bright spot out of direct sun. Ideal is filtered light, such as near an east or north-facing window.

Temperature

Keep the temperature around 25-28°C during the day, and at least 20°C at night. This species does not like temperature fluctuations.

Water

Water small amounts regularly and allow the substrate to dry slightly between waterings. Preferably use rainwater or low-lime water.

Humidity

A humidity of 60-80% is ideal. Regular spraying or use of a humidifier is recommended.

Air circulation

Ensure adequate ventilation to prevent mold growth.

Substrate

Use fine to medium-sized orchid bark, possibly mixed with sphagnum. The roots need air but should not dry out.

Fertilization

During the growth phase, give a light fertilizer application monthly, preferably an orchid fertilizer suitable for epiphytic species.

This fragrant and visually impressive orchid is ideal for those who like botanical species with character and an intense floral perfume.
