In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

Trichoglottis putida, often still referred to by its old name Trichoglottis pusilla, is a rare miniature species from Southeast Asia. Despite its modest size, this is a species with a striking appearance and a rich botanical background. Perfect for the collector who loves subtle beauty with a story.

Origin

This orchid is native to lowland forests of Malaysia and Borneo, among others, where it grows as an epiphyte on tree trunks in warm, humid conditions. The species grows slowly but steadily, forming compact plantlets that adapt well to life in the paludarium or on a piece of cork.

Characteristics

Trichoglottis putida remains very small, forming short, erect stems with leathery leaves. What makes it really special are its relatively large flowers for its size: yellowish to cream colored with purple or reddish-brown markings, usually single on short stalks. The blooms are not striking in size, but they are striking in detail. This makes her beloved by lovers of micro-orchids and botanical species.

Care

Light

Light to semi-shade. Avoid direct midday sunlight; filtered light is ideal.

Temperature

Warm to warm-moderate. Ideal daytime temperatures range from 22 to 28°C, with nighttime drops to about 18°C.

Substrate

This species prefers to grow on an aerated substrate such as fine tree bark, sphagnum or on a mount (cork or fern root), allowing the roots to dry well between waterings.

Humidity

High humidity of at least 70% is essential, especially when growing on a mount. Regular misting or a paludarium environment is highly recommended.

Nutrition

During the growing period, you may use highly diluted orchid fertilizer weekly (1/4 of the recommended dose). In winter, once a month is sufficient.

Watering

Always use demineralized water or clean rainwater. Keep the substrate slightly moist, but avoid keeping the roots constantly wet. A steady watering cycle with intervals of drying is important.

Flowering

Flowering usually occurs in warm months, but can occur irregularly. Because of its compact nature, it is a pleasure to unexpectedly discover a flower among the small leaves. The flowers last for several days.
