In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

The Vanda denisoniana var. orange is a rare variety of the classic Vanda denisoniana, loved for its warm, orange-yellow blooms and intense fragrance. This species is native to the mountainous regions of Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, where it grows on tree branches in moist forests. The "orange" variety is rarer than the usual yellow-green form, and is prized for its deeper colored flowers.

Origin

This orchid is native to the mountainous region of northern Thailand and surrounding regions. It grows there at high altitudes as an epiphyte on trees, in a climate with lots of haze, diffuse light and relatively cool nights.

Characteristics

  • Flowers: Large, waxy flowers with a deep, warm orange color and a distinct sweet fragrance reminiscent of honey or vanilla.
  • Leaves: Narrow, leathery leaves in a Vanda-typical, upright growth habit.
  • Flowering: Usually in spring or early summer. Flowers often remain beautiful for two to three weeks.
  • Growth habit: Monopodial growth with roots hanging freely in the air or growing in an airy basket.

Care

Light

Give this Vanda plenty of bright, indirect light. A place with morning sun or filtered sunlight is ideal. Avoid bright midday sun, especially in summer.

Temperature

This species feels best at temperatures between 18 and 28 °C. Cool nights to about 15 °C promote flowering.

Substrate

Vandas grow best in a wooden basket without substrate or with coarse bark. Ensure good air circulation around the roots.

Humidity

A humidity of 60-80% is ideal. Lower humidity or heat requires more frequent misting and possibly spraying.

Watering

Dip the roots in demineralized water in the morning 2-3 times a week, possibly mixed with clean rainwater. Let the roots dry well in between to prevent root rot. In hot periods, this may be done daily. Ensure good air movement (no drafts) around the roots. Do not leave water in the leaf axils.

Nutrition

Give an orchid fertilizer in low concentration (1/4 to 1/2 the recommended dose) weekly, preferably during the growing period.

Flowering

Flowering is stimulated by alternating warm days and cooler nights, adequate light and a short drier rest period in winter.
