In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

This particular hybrid combines the best of two Filipino and Indonesian species: the more compact growth and floriferousness of Vanda lamellata with the striking colorfulness of Vanda tricolor var. suavis. The result is an elegant, strong Vanda suitable not only for the experienced collector, but also for enthusiasts who want to expand their collection with something truly unique.

Origin

This hybrid originated from two botanical orchid species from Southeast Asia. Vanda lamellata originates from the Philippines and Taiwan, while Vanda tricolor var. suavis originated in Java and Bali. Both parents are known for their floral elegance and adaptability to warm climates.

Characteristics

This hybrid stands out for its flowers: white or soft yellow base color, often with a speckled or mottled pattern in pink to deep purple, originating from the tricolor var. suavis. The lip often shows a deep pink or lavender hue. The flowers are medium-sized and appear in clusters on sturdy flower stalks. Compared to purely botanical Vandas, this plant remains relatively compact, with slightly narrower leaves and slightly less exuberant growth, making it more suitable for growing in a greenhouse or light window sill.

Care

Light

This Vanda likes very bright light, but no direct midday sun. An east or west-facing window spot is ideal, possibly with some sunlight filtering. In a greenhouse or under grow lights it also does very well.

Temperature

A warm environment is ideal: between 22 and 30°C during the day, and no colder than 16°C at night. A short, cooler period can even stimulate flowering.

Substrate

As with many Vandas, this plant prefers to be grown without substrate, in a wooden basket or hanging. Provide adequate air circulation around the roots. If necessary, coarse bark can be used to slightly increase humidity around the roots.

Humidity

A humidity of 60-80% is ideal. In a dry indoor climate, you can create a suitable microclimate with a humidifier or regular spraying.

Watering

This Vanda requires daily watering during warm periods, especially when growing without substrate. Dip the roots completely or water them extensively in the morning. Preferably use demineralized water or room temperature rainwater.

Nutrition

During the active growing period, give orchid fertilizer weekly at a low concentration (for example, 1/4 of the recommended dose). In winter, this may be reduced to once a month.

Flowering

With proper care, this hybrid can bloom several times a year! Flowers typically last 3 to 5 weeks. A short, cooler period with a little less water can help initiate flowering.
