In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

The Vanda limbata is a botanical orchid with a striking, exotic appearance. This species is loved by connoisseurs for its unique color pattern and compact growth habit. A true gem for the botanical Vanda lover looking for something special.

Origin

The Vanda limbata is native to Indonesia, particularly on the islands of Flores, Timor and Sumbawa. There it grows epiphytically in moist forests, where it attaches to tree branches and benefits from high humidity and plenty of light. In nature, it usually blooms during the rainy season.

Characteristics

What makes Vanda limbata so special is its warm brown to copper-colored petal with a subtle network of stripes or spots. The contrast with the bright white or pale pink lip makes the flower extra expressive. The flowers emit a soft, slightly sweet fragrance and usually appear in clusters of several at a time.

This variety generally stays more compact than some other Vandas, making it ideal for enthusiasts with limited space. The sturdy aerial roots are typical of this orchid and require adequate air circulation.

Care

Light

Give the Vanda limbata a very light location, preferably with some morning or evening sun. Avoid bright afternoon sun, especially in summer.

Temperature

This species likes heat. Ideal temperatures for this species are between 20°C and 30°C during the day, with a slight cooling at night.

Substrate

The Vanda limbata is preferably grown without substrate, hanging in a basket or in a glass vase, so that the roots can breathe freely. If you do use a medium, choose coarse bark.

Humidity

A humidity of 60 to 80% is ideal. In a dry environment, you can support this with a humidifier or a bowl of water near the plant. In particular, ensure sufficient light air movement around the roots to prevent mold and bacteria formation.

Nutrition

During the active growing period (spring to fall), it is best to feed the orchid weekly with a high-quality, balanced orchid fertilizer diluted to one-quarter of the recommended strength.

Watering

Water the aerial roots daily with demineralized water or clean rainwater, especially extra on hot days. In winter, a few times a week is sufficient. Allow the roots to dry out slightly between turns, but not completely.

Flowering

With proper care, the Vanda limbata blooms once or several times a year. Flowering usually lasts for several weeks. A slightly cooler night temperature can stimulate flowering.
