The Chelonistele is a orchid genus which includes some 90 species. These orchids are native to Southeast Asia. They often have subdued flowers and are compact in size. Yet many species have unusual patterns on the flowers and striking colors, making this orchid genus increasingly more popular among collectors. Especially the lip of the flower has a special and unique appearance, which distinguishes this orchid from other genera. Most species in this genus like high humidity, lots of indirect sunlight and a well-draining substrate such as bark with sphagnum moss. They like clean water and are prone to root rot if water stays around the roots for too long.
