Previously, the Lemboglossum was recognized as separate orchid genus. Today, species are grouped into the genera Osmoglossum and Odontoglossum. Contemporary techniques in genetics are causing certain types of orchids to be reclassified taxonomically. The popular species Lemboglossum rossii, for example, is now called Osmoglossum rossii. This orchid is very popular because of its unusual fragrant flowers.
