Characteristics
The Macradenia has relatively small flowers which are often fragrant are. They usually grow in clusters and are generally a yellow to green color with occasional red highlights. The lip of the flower has nectar glands. The leaves are oblong and narrow, but leathery in texture. The size of these orchid can vary by species.
Popular species include the Macradenia multiflora and the Macradenia lutescens. The multiflora gets its name from the beautiful large flower clusters with red and white flowers and playful dots on the petals.
Origin
The Macradenia is an orchid genus with about 12 species. It is an orchid found mainly in Central and South America occur. Most of these species of Macradenia grow epiphytic in moist and warm rain forests.
Care
The Macradenia is happiest in warmer tropical climates. Keeping the temperature above 21 degrees Celsius and the humidity above 75% will help the plant bloom better. Provide moderate to plenty of indirect sunlight and allow the roots to dry between watering to prevent root rot. Regular misting and keeping humidity high will already help the plant retain moisture fairly easily. In the summer months during active growth, the roots may remain slightly moist between watering, but not soggy or wet.
