In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

Anoectochilus sanderianus is a rare jewel orchid with exceptionally refined leaf markings. Unlike the more robust types within the genus, this species is notable for its graceful, almost transparent-looking veins that lie like a light lacework over the velvety foliage. An asset for any serious collector of terrestrial orchids.

Origin

This species is native to the Philippines, where it occurs in cloud forests on medium-high mountain slopes. In its natural habitat, it grows in humus-rich, moist forest soils under a dense leaf layer, often together with ferns, mosses and other low-growing shade plants.

Characteristics

The leaves of A. sanderianus are oval to oblong, dark brown to olive green, with a distinctive network of fine, white-gold veins forming an almost crystalline pattern. Compared to species such as A. formosanus, the veins are lighter and finer in texture. The plant remains low and compact, with a graceful appearance. During flowering, usually in the cooler months, a thin flowering stem appears with small white-green flowers with subtle markings.

Care

Light

Provide filtered, indirect light. This species is prone to leaf burn and does well in partial shade or under LED lighting.

Temperature

Between 18 °C and 22 °C is ideal. Cooler nights are well tolerated, as long as the temperature does not drop below 15 °C.

Substrate

Use an airy, humus-rich mix of chopped sphagnum, leaf compost and a small amount of bark. Good drainage and oxygenation are essential.

Humidity

A humidity of 75-90% is recommended. This species does best in an enclosed terrarium with controlled ventilation.

Nutrition

During the growing period, a light fertilizer application (orchid fertilizer) once every 4-6 weeks, diluted to a quarter of the recommended dose, is sufficient.

Watering

Keep the substrate slightly moist with demineralized water. Never let it dry out, but also avoid wet conditions at the base of the plant.

Flowering

Flowering is subtle and subdued, usually in fall or winter. The flowers appear on an erect stem and have a delicate beauty that blends well with the refined character of the foliage.
