In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

The Coelogyne speciosa Green Type is a standout among orchids, with its sophisticated green hues and elegant growth habit. This species combines natural charm with relatively easy care, making it popular with collectors and novice enthusiasts alike.

Origin

Coelogyne speciosa is native to the humid mountain forests of Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo. There it grows on tree trunks in cool, misty areas at altitudes between 700 and 2000 meters. The Green Type is a selected form that stands out for its fresh green flower color.

Characteristics

This orchid forms sturdy, oval pseudobulbs from which long, narrow leaves spring. During flowering, one to several large flowers appear per flower stem. The flowers are soft green with a light colored lip subtly decorated with fine markings. The fragrance is light and pleasant. Flowering time usually falls in spring or early summer, but under good conditions Coelogyne speciosa can bloom several times a year.

Care

Light

Give this species bright, filtered light. Avoid direct sunlight in the afternoon, as it can cause leaf burn. Morning or evening sun is usually well tolerated.

Temperature

Coelogyne speciosa likes cool to moderate temperatures. Ideally between 18 and 24 °C during the day, at night it may cool to 12-16 °C.

Substrate

Use an airy, fine bark mixture in which roots can breathe well. If necessary, add some sphagnum to increase moisture around the roots.

Humidity

A humidity level between 60 and 80% is recommended. Regular spraying or using a humidifier will help with healthy growth.

Nutrition

Fertilize weekly during the active growth period with a low concentration orchid fertilizer. During the dormant period, once a month is sufficient.

Watering

Water generously when the substrate feels almost dry, preferably with demineralized water or clean rainwater. Make sure no water remains in the growing core to prevent rotting.

Flowering

After a dormant period in winter, Coelogyne speciosa Green Type may flower as new growth emerges. Flowers often appear one at a time, allowing you to enjoy the blooms for longer periods of time.
