The Cochlioda orchid used to be considered a separate orchid genus, but nowadays species with this name are officially included under the name Oncidium. The flowers of the Cochlioda are often brightly colored and small in shape. The genus is native to South America, where it grows in a somewhat cooler and more humid climate than the average tropical orchid. The Cochlioda has been an important base in orchid breeding. The genus is still often crossed with other genera such as the Odontoglossum and Oncidium species. Often with the reason of brightly colored and exotic-looking flowers get, as has succeeded with the popular Vuylstekeara orchid. Many sought-after species of Cochlioda include the Cochlioda vulcanica, Cochlioda noezliana, Cochlioda rosea and the Cochlioda vulcanica.
